The Clean Annapolis River Project (CARP) is a charitable, community-owned corporation created to work with the community and interested organizations to foster the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of the freshwater and marine ecosystems of southwestern Nova Scotia's Annapolis River and its watershed. Since its formation, in March 1990 and subsequent invitation in October 1991 to participate in Environment Canada's Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP), CARP has been involved in over 100 projects related to volunteer water quality monitoring, fish habitat restoration, public education, coastal zone management, private stewardship initiatives, sustainable agriculture, pollution prevention and many other issues. CARP has been involved in numerous local, regional, national and international initiatives to support community environmental management. CARP has received numerous awards for its activities, most notably the Canada Healthy Environment Award, the highest such award in Canada. CARP has also been an invited participation in numerous regional, national and international programs to promote community environmental management.
